More Art on Campus – new agreement between the Public Art Agency and Akademiska Hus

The Public Art Agency and Akademiska Hus are extending and deepening their collaboration on Art on Campus. Through a new five-year agreement, Akademiska Hus is investing up to SEK 60 million in new contemporary art – both temporary and permanent works – at universities and colleges around the country..

The investment means that hundreds of thousands of students, researchers and visitors will have the opportunity to encounter art in their everyday lives. Artists and curators are invited early in the construction and planning processes, which makes room for new perspectives in the design of future knowledge environments. The works are produced by the Public Art Agency, which has previously had a close collaboration with Akademiska Hus. Today, there are approximately 800 permanent works produced by the Public Art Agency at universities around Sweden.

– Through the collaboration with Akademiska Hus, we enable hundreds of thousands of people to encounter art in their everyday lives and for artists to bring new perspectives when campus areas around Sweden are to be designed, says Lotta Mossum, Head of Art Unit at the Public Art Agency.

– Together with the Public Art Agency, we share the vision that art is an important part of the development of campuses and that art should be something that is included in the early stages of our planning and construction processes. By involving artists and curators early on, we open up unexpected perspectives and solutions for how the environments can be designed. With Art on Campus, we want to inspire new perspectives and thoughts to create vibrant and experiential knowledge environments where students, researchers and visitors thrive and want to be, says Marcus Rancken, Head of Art at Akademiska Hus.
