Public Art Agency Sweden is a governmental agency that produces public art – our work can be found throughout the country.
Public Art Agency Sweden was founded in 1937 and is an agency under the Ministry of culture. The art we produce is representative of the time we live in. Our mission and our work follows and changes in pace with developments in society and reflects our present time.
Contemporary art is about more than objects – it’s about experiences, social interactions, and critical and creative practices. In a similar way, public space consists of more than streets and squares – it also consists to an equal degree of social and mental public spaces. These are the spaces that arise when we meet one another, exchange ideas and express our feelings. This web of complex and dynamic situations is Public Art Agency Sweden’s natural arena.
Public Art Agency Sweden is allocated an annual budget of SEK 42.9 million (2020) to produce public art, with a supplementary grant of an additional SEK 31.8 million (2020) for specific projects.
