On Saturday 17 September we will inaugurate our new space located premises in the former Boatswain Barracks at 11A Svensksundsvägen on the island of Skeppsholmen in central Stockholm. Join us for a full-day programme with music, performances, a presentation of new works in the collection, guided tours and workshops for children. Meet the artists, view the works and meet us who make art accessible for more people across the country.
In conjunction with the inauguration we will launch two new public programme speries: Meet the Art and Meet the Artist,which will continue throughout the autumn at Skeppsholmen as part of Public Art Agency Sweden’s programme for a wide audience.
The inauguration will take place in connection with the Skeppsholmen Day, an event where the institutions located on the island jointly organise a string of festivities.

Astrid Göransson and David Skoog’s performative lecture Kom som du är! Arbetet med ett monument (Come as You Are: Developing a Monument) invites the audience to reflect on the artistic process involved in the creation of Göransson’s recently inaugurated monument installed in front of the Swedish Parliament building in Stockholm. The artwork Kom som du är! (Come as You Are) highlights the five first women members of the Swedish Parliament. The site of the artwork is the Riksplan square in Stockholm and the project is a collaboration between Public Art Agency Sweden and the Swedish Parliament. Göransson and Skoog’s performance will be followed by a conversation with Public Art Agency Sweden’s Director, Patrick Amsellem and the audience. Language: Swedish.

Meet the artist duo Nomeda and Gediminas Urbonas in conversation with Edi Muka, curator at Public Art Agency Sweden and Helena Selder, artistic director of Baltic Art Center, on the digital artwork The Swamp Observatory. The work is part of Ur himlen ner i jorden (Out of the sky, into the earth Soil), a public art project by Public Art Agency Sweden in collaboration with Baltic Art Center that provokes thoughts of life, caring and co-existence on a damaged planet. 15:45 – 16:00 Meet the Artists: Gideonsson/Londré, Erik Thörnqvist, Anja and Tomas Örn
Since 2020, Public Art Agency Sweden has collaborated with the Swedish Transport Administration in developing new ways of thinking in regard to producing public art in conjunction with major construction projects. The pilot project Norrbotniabanan (The North Bothnia Line) has involved three artist groups who were invited at an early stage of the planning work. In an exploratory manner the artists have developed ideas for public art for the North Bothnia Railway Line that extends 270 kilometres along the coast of Västerbotten and Norrbotten in northern Sweden.
Artists Gideonsson/Londré, Erik Thörnqvist, Anja and Tomas Örn call their idea Superpuppan (The Super Chrysalis). As in a game including fictitious characters, infinite possibilities are created for interpreting and approaching the railway. The artists describe Superpuppan as a system of relations in which the material and the non-material, the human and the more-than-human are of equal importance. People can participate with their chosen character and will be treated to a travel experience with friction in which a number of choices has to be made in order to progress.

In a conversation with Eva Ek-Schaeffer, one of Sweden’s most prominent textile artists, we learn about the artistic process behind the tapestry Mnemosyne (Minne) – a new acquisition for Public Art Agency Sweden’s collection – which can be experienced on site during the conversation. The artwork depicts Raoul Wallenberg’s struggle to liberate Jews in Budapest in 1944–1945. Language: Swedish.

In an urban runoff stream on Albano Campus, OOZE Architects (Eva Pfannes and Sylvain Hartenberg) and artist Marjetica Potrč are creating the living artwork Future Island, which changes with the seasons and raises questions about the effect of climate change. The artwork has been developed in collaboration with climate researchers from Stockholm University and other experts specialised in, among other things, energy solutions and landscape architecture. Future Island will be inaugurated in 2023.

Åsa Cederqvist’s imaginary landscape and staging Gränslandet was recently inaugurated in Heby Folkets Park (People’s Park). The work builds on stories from the site and is based on the area’s history and materials, not least clay and brick. Together with the physical landscape, Gränslandet creates a common space in the park, which is now available to be activated by the visitors to the People’s Park.
