Malin Grumstedt’s ceramic sculpture Ovan molnen (Above the Clouds) from 2024, celebrates architectural forms and explores the versatility of clay and its limits.
In Malin Grumstedt’s ceramic sculptures, we encounter both vulnerability and creativity. Inspired by architectural forms, the artist has built and created imaginative constructions, in which she, through rolling and glazing, has carefully taken advantage of the clay’s varying properties and at the same time challenged its potential.
“Roofs, walls, doors and windows are elements that have been inventively combined in everything from huts to stately palaces. We stack, lay bricks and build to get in, out, up and under. But our constructions are constantly in a state of decay and dissolution. In the end, the tower of bricks always collapses.”
