“Follow Me!” someone shouts. A cowboy in underpants and a hat, holding a glass bottle, is being led away by a clown. What will happen?
Viktor Mattson’s oil painting Follow Me presents a scenario that often recurs in his art: The Cowboy tries to do good, but is lured by clowns and devils to commit “unchristian acts”.
The characters are frequently fragile and weak and find themselves in some sort of internal or external struggle, such as the battle between good and evil. The artist describes his artistic expression as “simple, fragile and naive”, which creates “a connection between form and narrative”.
