In the new School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg, Runo Lagomarsino creates the artwork Golvets historia (The History of the Floor), connecting the present with the future and the history, while also raising questions about what is visible and invisible in society.
The brass dots in the floor mark places where images from news articles are sealed in the floor, like time capsules. The articles, from Swedish and international newspapers, touch on issues of mobility and migration and have been collected by the artist over the course of a year. The year the artist made his selection of articles was 2022, the same year that Russia started its war of aggression against Ukraine and when inflation took off after the years of Covid, which had a major impact on the international economy, migration and mobility. The texts of the newspaper articles with the images cut out, absent, will be placed in the corridors on one of the upper floors. Thus, a story is created about the year the articles were published.
Over time, the newsprint will slowly turn yellow and contribute to the artwork’s story of memory and history. Golvets historia connects the present with the future and the history, while also raising questions about what is visible and invisible in society. Runo Lagomarsino collects stories from today that reflect our time, which must live on and be discovered by new generations.
