In The Repetition we encounter the artist on stage in Möllvångstorget repeatedly trying to memorize, internalize and finally sing without interruption the de facto Swedish national anthem. The work exists on the fault line of national self-perception, and is a personal take on issues of belonging and cultural confrontation. Displacement has become the most powerful imagery of the contemporary world, while ongoing debates about borders, security and social cohesion are continuously re-shaping the political landscape. Engaging critically with interpretations of the notion of belonging and its centrality to people’s lives has become increasingly important.
