Skeppsholmen is located in the middle of Stockholm’s inlet and is one of the city’s most visited places. As part of the National Urban Park, the environment is protected for its significant cultural-historical values. The Admiralty House was built for the Navy’s Board of Directors and was completed in 1650. Since its inception, the building has both changed its appearance and served various purposes such as the National Archives, grain warehouses, barracks and offices. In connection with the reconstruction of the Admiralty House and adaptation for the Swedish Institute of International Affairs, a commission is announced for an outdoor public art project.

The curatorial vision focuses on Skeppsholmen as a historical landscape shaped by its various connections to the outside world. A place where human movements have manifested themselves in park environments, building history and contemporary cultural exchanges. Through the new artwork, the island’s diversity of public art is complemented by a contemporary work that becomes yet another layer of time in the island’s history. Skeppsholmen will be given a new landmark with possible locations on both the north and south sides of the Admiralty House.
