Runo Lagomarsino is developing the artistic intervention The History of the Floor for the new School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg. Connecting the present with the future and history, the artwork will also raise questions about what is seen and unseen in society.
Runo Lagomarsino’s artistic intervention The History of the Floor will contain an abstract pattern of bronze dots on the floor in the lobby of the School of Business, Economics and Law. The bronze dots will mark the places where images from news items have been sealed in the floor like time capsules. Sourced from Swedish and international newspapers, articles touching on issues of mobility and migration will be compiled by the artist for a year. With their images removed, the newspaper articles will be installed in the corridors on the upper floors, creating a narrative about the year of publication. As the newsprint slowly yellows, the artwork will serve as a repository of memories and history.
In connection with the inauguration of the artwork in 2025, Runo Lagomarsino will organise a marathon performance where articles in various languages will be read aloud on site at the School of Business, Economics and Law.
