Among the Living

Among the Living is an artwork exploring the relationship between humans and artificial intelligence through a speculative and interactive design. The work revolves around an AI-based agent – a digital being with a deliberately naive approach – installed at five different Art Faculties in Gothenburg and in a digital environment online.

The Agent actively seeks contact with its surroundings by asking questions, showing curiosity and inviting reflection. Instead of providing answers or conveying information, the Agent encourages dialogue, reflection and new ways of thinking about knowledge, technology and togetherness.

Through the interaction with participants, the Agent changes and develops over time. At the same time, it functions as a subtle link between different artistic and academic environments – and opens up for interdisciplinary meetings and conversations across geographical and institutional boundaries.

With Among the Living, artist Jonas Lund wants to question our relationship with AI and new technologies, and offers a close insight into how technology could be used to promote relationships rather than just function as a tool for efficiency.

In the process, the artist has collaborated with students from the University of Gothenburg: HDK-Valand, the Academy of Music and Drama and Campus Steneby.

Temporary art projects in collaboration with Akademiska Hus

The temporary projects result in artworks that are exhibited for a shorter period of time and create new opportunities for everyone involved. Through the temporary works, new methods, new technology and new ideas about what public art can be, can be tested. The processes are faster but the designs are, just like with permanent works, site-specific. In 2025, the Public Art Agency will work on the visibility of art on campus areas through temporary art projects in collaboration with Akademiska Hus.
