Forum for Intersectional Working Methods

The Public Art Agency, together with Region Skåne and Västra Götaland Region and the Cultural Academy, is now arranging a course on intersectional working methods. The course is part of the competence development work for art actors that is carried out within the framework of our promotion assignment.

The course is aimed at professional art actors in decision-making roles. More specifically, executive managers, artistic directors, jury members, curators, art consultants or other coordinating roles who want to develop inclusive and sustainable workplaces and working methods through the implementation of new processes.

The course is based on one’s own writing and, drawing on black, decolonial and queer/feminist research, the participants examine the complicated relationships to “the Other” in Nordic culture. The work is deeply personal, but is done together with all participants, sharing joys and challenges around identity, power and the creation of the world through and together with art, without sharing the private conversation one has with oneself.

The course combines methods developed by Professor John-Paul Zaccarini within the framework of the five-year research project FutureBrownSpace, which is being conducted at Stockholm University of the Arts, with lectures and coaching from Hanna Wallensteen, a licensed psychologist and psychotherapist with special knowledge in areas related to minority stress, norms and racism. Coaching is given individually or together with colleagues with a focus on issues or dilemmas regarding inclusion, social sustainability and intersectionality that participants wish to think about together.

John-Paul Zaccarini

Lecturer

John-Paul Zaccarini, professor at Stockholm University of the Arts, leads the FutureBrownSpace initiative. His work, which combines artistic and activist methods, focuses on racialisation, anti-discrimination and creative processes in Black Studies. For leaders in artistic and cultural professions, his methods offer important tools for addressing intersectionality, developing inclusive working methods and creating active, artistic communities. The goal is that these methods can contribute to building awareness of structural inequalities and promote creative and sustainable work environments.
