The seminar Weaving a Sustainable Future: Textile Art and Crafts for Planetary Health was arranged by The Swedish Artists’ Association and the Public Art Agency as part of Stockholm Craft Week.
How can textile art and handicraft contribute to a living planet? What role does biodesign and innovative textile practice play in global sustainability? Taking its starting point from these questions, among other things, the seminar explored the intersection between textile art, handicraft and innovation that promotes the environment. Through invited artists and researchers, we were able to take part of traditional and contemporary artisanal practices that push for ecological development and planetary recovery. Invited guests presented ground-breaking projects in which art, science and sustainability interact to meet contemporary environmental challenges.
Carole Collet, Professor in Design for Sustainable Futures, Central Saint Martins UAL, was one of the seminar speakers, among others. The artists Paola Torres Núñes del Prado and Leif Holmstrand also participated.
