In Rebecka Tollens’s series Eye of a Womb the viewer is faced with a glass chicken and other ornaments, a woman resting with her hands in her lap, a boy on some sort of climbing frame and a haunted room.
What may look like photographs from bygone times are in fact charcoal drawings. The artist explains that “like in a marriage between the celebration of a memory and a desire to be remembered”, she collects fragments of lives and expressions from dreams, folklore and destinies that reveal what lies beyond the visible.
Artist biography Rebecka Tollens
Born in 1990, Rebecka Tollens holds an MFA from École de Condé in Paris. She lives and works in Stockholm.
