 On Who are ya?!

Klas Eriksson is interested in structures of power, control and limitations. Informed by an investigation of mass-culture and employing various strategies, his practice materialises through a variety of media such as performance, video, photography, painting, text and sculpture. For Choreographies of the Social, Eriksson re-enacts “Who are ya?!”, a performance from 2011 focusing on temporality, architecture and collectivity. 120 participants will, at a given signal, light flares commonly used at football matches. After the flares have burned out and darkness swallows the site again, a collective shout with the words of the title arises to fill the air.

120 participants will, at a given signal, light flares commonly used at football matches.

The performance is site-specific and is always activated in dialogue with a particular architecture, in this case a bridge. It can be seen as a temporary sculpture in the public domain, posing an honest question in a collective way. The artist aims to establish a communicative immediacy, which is both visually and conceptually innovative.
