The Contemporary Art Days Summit 2020

Welcome to the Contemporary Art Days Summit on 21–23 October at Vandalorum in Värnamo. The overarching theme is the future of art, its practitioners and other actors in the policy area “Designed Living Environment”.

The Contemporary Art Days Summit 2020 is addressed to individuals and organisations who have an interest in or are involved in the future of art in the policy area “Designed Living Environment”.

In recent years our ambition has been to make the Contemporary Art Days Summit more co-creative and involve various actors in the field of art. This year’s overall theme is the future of art, its practitioners and other actors in the policy area “Designed Living Environment”. In preparation for the Contemporary Art Days Summit 2020, we will organise a web-based workshop on 20–21 April where interested parties are invited to discuss the content of this autumn’s conference. For more information on the workshop and how to register, click here.

The Role of Art in “Designed Living Environment”
The role of art in the policy area is vaguely formulated and the art field is vaguely organised. Design and architecture have been included in the policy area for some time, while art and cultural heritage entered the policy area first in 2018. We would like to explore the possibilities of the art field to compile, formulate itself and interpret the government bill. Our idea is that the art world as a field or a sector can begin to formulate how art, its practitioners and other actors can and should contribute to the policy and why it is so important to do it together.

The policy area “Design Living Environment” is the contact area where art, its practitioners and other actors are involved in creating our common living environments. Some of the issues we wish to raise at the Contemporary Art Days Summit 2020 are:

  • In what way can this be an opportunity to change the view of the field of art and its actors (independent and institutional) from someone who needs support into actors who constitute an important resource for society?
  • How can actors in the field of art and art in and beyond public art be included in this area?
  • How can we create new structures and working methods that give rise to new interprofessional collaborations?

The Contemporary Art Days Summit 2020 will take place on 21–23 October at Vandalorum in Värnamo, Region Jönköping. Given the prevailing uncertainty about the infectivity of Covid-19, we reserve the right to organise the Contemporary Art Days Summit 2020 in an alternative manner.

The Contemporary Art Days Summit is an annual project organised by Public Art Agency Sweden and various actors. It is a part of Public Art Agency Sweden’s permanent assignment to promote and disseminate the development of contemporary art with a special focus on strengthening actors in the field of art.
