Currently in Art is Happening

The projects are site-specific and realised in collaboration with residents, representatives from the local community, municipalities and other actors in the areas. The knowledge and experience gained during the project will be communicated in Sweden and abroad.

15 Locations Proceed To Next Phase

On 4 October 2016, a decision was reached on where the Public Art Agency Sweden will continue its collaboration with representatives from local communities and local actors in the government initiative Art is Happening.

Amiralsstaden, Malmö

The City of Malmö wants to involve residents and local actors in the urban development process Amiralsstaden.

Gamlegården, Kristianstad

A quiet walk with eyes closed. Artists Anna Högberg and Johan Tirén’s project takes its point of departure in a temporary performance in Gamlegården.

Gärdeåsen, Ljusdal

More participation. New places for meetings. People living and working in Gärdeåsen want to make the outdoor space a place for everyone.

Hageby, Norrköping

A group of architects and engineers who have recently immigrated to Sweden wish to create a community centre in Hageby.

Hammarkullen, Gothenburg

In Hammarkullen, the public baths threatened with closure were saved after public criticism. Currently the interior is being renovated and a group of local women and artist Maider López are involved in the process.

Hyllie Youth Council (HUR) wants to foster commitment, spread happiness and be role models for other young people throughout Sweden.

Hässelby, Stockholm

Their own stage. Their own place to work in. The Council of United Creoles wants to create a meeting place in Hässelby where they can tell their own stories.

Jordbro, Haninge

A social space. Culture available to more people. Associations active in Jordbro’s Cultural Centre want to open up the closed space to the square outside.

Lindängen, Malmö

Increased security in the urban environment. Artworks in the urban space. These are some of the resident network Gatukraft’s visions for the centre of Lindäng.

Mellanstaden, Karlskrona

A people’s park. A place for culture and celebration. Mellanstaden People’s House and Park want to design a new meeting place in Kungsmarken.

Prästholmen, Boden

A house. A journey into society. At Prästholmen, asylum seekers live in one of the multi-dwelling units surrounded by empty green spaces.

Råby, Västerås

The idea of the adventure playground The Balloon has been resurrected. The Model: A Model for a Qualitative Society was a legendary exhibition in the form of an adventure playground displayed at Moderna Museet in Stockholm in 1968, and later at Råby.

In Råslätt, optimism in the future is growing in collaboration with residents, associations, religious communities and the municipality.

Tjärna Ängar, Borlänge

The non-profit organisation Tjärnkraft and the Municipality of Borlänge want to emphasise the area’s positive qualities.

Tynnered, Gothenburg

Young people have repeatedly expressed the need for increased safety in the area.
